Position Summary
The Division of Occupational Science and Occupational Therapy at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC) offers both a Master of Science (MS) degree in occupational therapy and a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in occupational science. Located within the UNC School of Medicine, the MS program is an entry-level degree that aims to prepare occupational therapists to practice in a wide range of contexts. Consistent with the missions of the University and the School, the Division is committed to service to the people of North Carolina and beyond through providing educational programs, advancement of knowledge, and by providing professional and clinical service.

The two adjunct faculty provide teaching support to the MS degree program by the expanding and enriching the breadth and depth of expertise within the program. The duties of adjunct faculty are assigned by the Division Director. Adjunct faculty may co-teach a course or take on the role of instructor of record. Adjunct faculty must be effective teachers and have expertise in their content area as required by ACOTE.

The primary purpose of adjunct faculty is to teach in the MS program. Candidates must be able to work independently. Responsibilities include:
Collaborate with faculty teaching concurrently
Update course syllabus
Implement course content, assignments, projects, and/or exams
Grade and monitor student progress
Communicate concerns regarding quality of student work or other student performance issues
Communicate or submit course final grade

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
License to practice occupational therapy in North Carolina

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
  • Minimum of 3 years of clinical experience in areas being taught
  • Experience providing guest lectures, in-services, and/or conference presentations
  • Knowledge of current evidence for occupation-centered evaluation and intervention
  • Excellent communication and computer skills
